Findings of an academic report suggest that attending an independent school in England is associated with the equivalent of two additional years of schooling by the age of 16.

The ‘academic value added’ report commissioned by the Independent Schools Council (ISC) and produced by CEM at Durham University, examined the differences in attainment between pupils educated in independent and state schools, and controlled for differences such as prior ability and socioeconomic status.

The report also showed that according to international PISA outcomes, independent schools in England outperform the best European nations and are level with Japan and South Korea.
