General Technical Requirements
Find out what you need to run your Cambridge Insight assessment
All Cambridge Insight assessments are digital and need a reliable internet connection to access online. You can check below which browsers and devices will give you the best assessment experience. We advise carrying out a test run of your assessment on your devices in school to check that your set-up works before you assess your learners. Please contact us if you want to run a test on Cambridge Primary Insight.
We have thoroughly tested our assessments and reports on a range of devices and browsers. Our findings are categorised as:
- Recommended - the best experience of the assessment, reports and administration
- Supported - the reports and administration work as expected, but the visual and audio quality of the assessment may be affected
- Not supported - reports and administration should work, but the assessment should not be attempted on the browser/device as results may be inaccurate or lost
To make sure that the assessment results and data pass securely from your school to Cambridge, you will also need to whitelist our web addresses. This is to allow data transfer through any network firewalls you have in place.
Before you start
We always recommend using or updating to the latest version of the operating system on your device. However, we know this is not always possible (particularly on older Apple devices), in which case, we advise installing the latest version of the Chrome browser.
Do you know your bandwidth? As you may be running several assessments simultaneously, it’s important to know what level of traffic your network can handle. Because internet speed is measured in bits per second, we have included an indication of the size for each assessment application. This will give you a good understanding of how much internet traffic your network needs to handle when multiple students take the assessment at the same time. You can find more detailed information about the bandwidth considerations of each assessment below.

Last few notes
Where we have recommended the use of tablets, we suggest a minimum screen size of 10 inches and completing the assessment on landscape mode.
From June 2025, due to security upgrades, our non-web applications will no longer function on older operating systems that are no longer supported by the manufacturer, such as Windows 7 or Big Sur (Mac OS 11).
Web-only application: A fully browser-based application. The assessment runs entirely from the internet so we recommend for schools that have a high-speed internet service and internal network.
Non-web application: A downloadable application that runs within a browser but is hosted on a school's network. This is recommended for schools with no or low-speed external internet connection.
